ONE
DIGITAL LIFE
Paul Burd
If I kept a real blog and not this poor excuse for a rambling, randomly updated
journal, I'd want it to be pretty much exactly what designer Paul Burd has put
together here at One Digital Life. Gadgets, Apple/Mac stuff, clever uses of technology
and some very useful design resources. Plus he likes my artwork, so he must have
impeccable taste. Click through, read up, and check out his other sites.
Tell him Allen sent ya!
GIRLS
WITH SLINGSHOTS
Danielle Corsetto
My new favorite comic strip (in spite of the fact that she updates on Tuesdays
and Thursdays which necessitated the creation of a new entry in my links menus,
but I did it anyway because it's just so good). GWS is a new strip, only a
couple of months old, I think, but easily fits in with some of the best comic
art I've found. I've told Daneille that the best of her work sometimes reminds
of me Phil Foglio, and I just cannot think of a higher compliment.
FLIGHT:
VOLUME ONE AND VOLUME TWO
Kazu Kibuishi has
one of the most charming, dynamic cartooning/
illustration styles you are likely to find
anywhere. And he's found a whole host of other
brilliant creators to contribute to this project,
which is certain to engender new heights of
jealousy and inspiration by the sheer magnitude
of talent present. Plus, what a fun subject!
CARTOONRETRO
by Shane Glines
The esteemed Shane Glines (cartoonist, character designer, industry icon) has
opened his latest online project to the public, Cartoonretro. Take the tour,
join the site if you like, drop him a line, and tell him Scruffy sent you.
DEAN
YEAGLE at Bellefree.com
Animator and illustrator extraordinaire, an inspiration to us all. Ladies and
Gentlemen, I present to you Mr. Dean Yeagle. He's kind of an Obi Wan Kenobi
to the pinup girl artist set, but with a better sense of humor. Buy his sketchbook,
say hi to him at a con. You won't be disappointed!
BRAND
STUDIO by Alberto Ruiz
When I first discovered Alberto's work a couple of years ago, I was convinced
that it just couldn't get any better. I am here now to admit in front of you
all that I was dead wrong. Alberto is the real deal, the complete package.
Master of line and space and style, versatile graphic designer, hellacious
illustrator.
Makes me ill. Truly. :-)
ARTPLAYMIX by
Jason and Heather Martin
Jason and Heather are a hell of an illustration team, and each an excellent
artist in their own right. I have personally been a big fan for almost two
years now. Hot babes and fast cars. Seriously now.
GARY
HAM, Illustrator
I've given Gary money, I like his work so much. His work is cute, funny, sexy
- all the qualities you look for in a perfect girl. Check out his stuff, and
tell him Scruffy sent you.
THE
FRAY by Rob Niedojadio
The
Fray is a brand spanking
new comic site that I expect
to see bigger things out
of. Already, I'm pretty well
hooked.Apparently it has
something to do with alien
invasion and beer. I'm not
sure. NOTE: a few weeks ago,
Rob more or less ended off
on the Fray, in
favor of new projects. You
should still visit him and
check out his work.
SCOTT
THIGPEN, ILLUSTRATOR
Scott's another one I expect to see big things out of in the future. We've
only met online (in the Bellefree.com forums and via email) but I already consider
him a friend. And one day we WILL have that Krispy Kreme.
LUNATIQUE by
Julie Rocheleau
Damn, I wish I could draw like this. Or I wish I did draw like this. Maybe
I should start drawing like this. Anyway, this is a fantastic site full of
the kind of wonder that normally only exists in a child's imagination.
BLAMBOT
It may be impossible to overesitimate Blambot's impact on typography in and
around the graphic fiction industry. Fonts for every kind of comic and pulp
adventure you can think of.
FALLEN by
Aido Rakaen
STRINGS
OF FATE by Jen Wang
Two
this week, because they are stylistically
similar and because I am equally charmed
by them both.
Jen's
I've known about for some time, and Aido's I have just discovered.
With styles occupying an ethereal region somewhere between anime
and Disney, they leave her drawings delightfully "unfinished" and
full of life and energy.
You'll
get hooked and then worry that neither updates as often as they
should, just like me.
